Fire on Block East of East St. and North of Grand River Howell, Michigan - October 5, 1892
Photos showing the fire that happened on October 5, 1892 on the block east of East St. (present day Michigan Ave.) and North of Grand River in Howell, Michigan. The damage was estimated at $50,000. Frank Hickey and Ed Wines perished. Some businesses shown in the photos are Ed K. Johnson Drugs and Henry C. Briggs Jeweler. They are both in the same building that was built in 1889. Current address of that building is 112 E Grand River Rd, Howell, MI 48843. This entire block had burned in 1887.
There is an additional photo "The Champion Fire Extinguisher During the Fire of 1892" on page 127 of The Howell Bicentennial History 1776-1976 Part 2.

Knights Templar Band on Sibley St. just east of Walnut St. looking west in Howell, Michigan. View present day location. The band is walking on the side of the street in the weeds. Sibley St. is all muddy and filled with ruts. The leader of the band is on horseback. -
"Jackie" Band Performing in a Parade in Howell, Michigan - 1917
"Jackie" Band in a parade going west on Grand River in Howell, Michigan. Left most building is on the north-east corner of Walnut St. and Grand River. View present day location.
A "Jackie" band was part of the larger John Phillip Sousa Navy Band. They toured the country as part of the movement to sell Liberty Loan bonds during World War I.
Can see store fronts for Johnson's Drug Store, Chapel's Jewelery with awning also showing Optician, a sign with Cigars and Soda, awning showing Martyns, Howell Radio Shoppe, and Cash Grocery. The side of the Johnson's Drug Store building has a Wrigley's Spearmint Gum ad and a partial sign for Drug & Book Store.

The Shiawassee Bridge was located on West Grand River Ave, also known as U.S.-16, about two miles west of Howell, Michigan. -
Bridge Building, Howell, Michigan, 1902
This photograph was taken in 1902 depicts the building of a new bridge to cross the Ann Arbor Railroad Tunnel at East Street (Division Street, Michigan Avenue). This photograph was included in the 1st National Bank Calendar collection. The Toledo & Ann Arbor Railroad car is pictured.
As noted in the December 17th, 1902 edition of the Livingston Republican, "The abutements for the new steel bridge over the tunnel near the Baptist Church are being placed. The work grading down the sides of the tunnel continues". -
