The Howell Library Board met Tuesday, November 15, 1960, at 7:30PM in the library. Present were : Mr. Engelhardt, Mrs. McCloskey, Mrs. Hight and Mrs. Gatesman.

Mr. Engelhardt called the meeting to order and the minutes of the October 18 meeting were read and approved.

There was some discussion of the state plan for libraries in Michigan.

The eaves drain pipe had been repaired by Mr. Warner, but the Screening of the eaves to keep out leaves seemed too expensive. There will be and estimate.

Mr. Norman had called Mrs. Hight concerning the charge made for rural cards, which, at the present is $2.00 per family or $1.00 for a student. Mr. Norman seems to think it should be $5.00 per family.

Mrs. Hight sends $350 to the city and keeps the balance for petty cash, to be used to buy small articles for the library and out of which she has also paid an extra page. It was also suggested that Mrs. Hight keep rural fines separate for one month.

There was discussion as to the advisability of making photostat copies of six important books which had been lost - history of (Michigan and) Howell. Two were of Howell, which ad been found in a farmer's tenant house. There had been four copies.

Miss Crofoot devotes free time to the library and Helen Meabon writes notices free.

More coal would be needed and ordered.

The meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Lillie Gatesman, record. secty.

There was not meeting in December

The Howell Library Board met January 17, at 7:30PM in the library. Present were: Mr. Engelhardt, Mr. Lyon, Dr. Eaton, Mrs. Hight, Mrs. McCloskey and Mrs. Gatesman.

The minutes of the November 15, [19]60 meeting were read and approved.

The subject of the lost copies of the Crittenten History of Howell was again discussed and Mrs. Hight said she has been promised one other copy. To Photostat copies would cost from $50 to $100. It was decided that Dr. Eaton would talk with Mr. Bailey at the school, about having his pupils type the book, which would lessen the work and cost of photostating.

Mrs. Hight now gives receipts to the rural people and their charge for cards will not be increased at this time.

Mrs Hight will try to get some information concerning penal fines, when they are paid, etc, from the county treasurer.

The present janitor will be relieved of his responsibilities early in February and the problem of a new one was discussed. Mrs. Hight read and passed
