Description
Howell Carnegie Library board minutes and ledger entries approved by the board.
The Howell Library Board met Tuesday, November 17, 1959 at 7:30PM in the library. Present were: Mr. Engelhardt, Mr. Lyon, Mrs. Hack, Mrs. Hight and Mrs. Gatesman. The minutes of the October meeting were read and after a small correction were approved.
Mr. Engelhardt reported that he had talked with Mr. Bath, the superintendent of schools and Mr. Scheiffer, principal of the High School regarding the possibility of having some of the school library books placed in our library. They visited our library but no commitments were made.
Mr. Engelhardt also reported on the trip some of us had made to the Ann Arbor Library as did Mrs. Hight on our trip to Adrian, Blissfield and Owosso.
A motion was made by Mrs. Hoch seconded by Mr. Lyon and carried unanimously, that petty cash collected from fines and rental fees, after $25.00, which must be turned over to the city, be allowed Mrs. Hight, to use at her discretion. This would make it possible for her to hire another page.
It was decided to not hold a December Board meeting and the meeting was adjourned, the next meeting to be January 19, 1960. Respectfully submitted, Lillie Gatesman, record. secty.
The Howell Library Board met Tuesday, January 19, 1960 at 7:30PM in the library. Preset were, Mr. Engelhardt, Mr. Lyons, Mrs. McCloskey, Mrs. Hight and Mrs. Gatesman.
The minutes of the November 19, 1959 meeting were read and approved, there not having been a December meeting. The resignation of Mrs. Hach was read and accepted with regrets. Your (?) secretary was instructed to write Mrs. Hach and to tell her how she would be missed on the board because of her excellent participation. There was a brief discussion concerning a new board member.
Mrs. Hight again review in detail our trip to Owosso, to their library and their invitation to our library to join them in the formation of a regional library. Such a move will mean much work and whether or not we will make such a decision, it was decided that there wasn't anything to be lost and probably something to be gained, to try to find out (what) how other libraries in Livingston County feel about it. Accordingly, Mrs. Hight will try to call a meeting of other librarians before our February board meeting.
Mrs. Hight also spoke of her magazine subscriptions and how much could be saved by ordering for these years at a time, because of the money output, it was suggested she might group them and order a few in this way each year, until all are on a three year basis. She was going to look into this to see if as much could be saved.(in this way).
The library is still open on Wednesdays from 12:00 noon to (Friday) 5:00PM.
No electrical work has yet been done and Mr. Howard who has been given the job says the library must be closed for thee days to the work. Mrs. Hight will put the dates in the paper in order to notify the public. The floor problem where finish is worn off, again came up, but as tabled until the February meeting.
There was a short discussion on the budget to be completed in February.
The meeting adjourned, the next meeting to be February 16. Respectfully submitted, Lillie Gatesman, record secty.
