Howell, Michigan September 20, 1956

The meeting of the Howell Library Board was called to order at 7PM Present were Theodore Krieger, chairman, Leslie Merritt, secretary, Mrs. Mary Hoch, Mrs. Lillian Gatesman and Mrs. Gertrude McCloskey, members.

Minutes of the August 16 meeting were read and accepted.

Mrs. Hight librarian said she thought she could profit in giving services as a librarian by taking a college extension course in literature and was willing to do so if the board would authorize payment of the fees. Informal approval was given.

The Jaycee's Auxiliary was reported willing to give the library certain help this year as a club project.

Mrs. Gatesman reported Mr. Torone of Michigan State University would address the Friends of the Library at a public meeting in October.

Mr. Krieger reported on talks with Howard Warner and Theo. Shindorf with reference to the library roof. After an inspection Mr. Warner advised the whole cornice needs to be removed, new eaves toughing put on and the cornice rebuilt to be effective for scraping and moping. The Milbrand (see May 17 minutes pg. 105) recommendations were again discussed and seemed favored by the board. Mrs. Hoch agreed to report on the matter to the city councils the cost is beyond the appropriation of the board from the budget for the building and roof repairs.
