Howell, Mich, November 14, 1956

A meeting of the Howell Library Board was called to order at 7PM.

Present were Theodore Krieger, chairman, Leslie Merritt, secretary, Mrs. Karl Hoch, Mrs. Lillian Gatesman and Mrs. Gerald McCloskey, Absent: none

Minutes of the meeting of September 20 were read and approved.

Mrs. Hight, librarian, reported she had bought a desk and chairs from Citizens Mutual for the library at an expenditure of $19.00 and was negotiating for a bookcase from this source.

From her annual report Mrs. Hight cited the library owed 12,272 books, had 1,477 borrowers including 359 from the rural area during the past year, 26,084 books were loaned in comparison to 24,887 for the previous year, and 300 books had been borrowed from the state library at the request of patrons. With this volume of patronage she said it may be necessary to ask for more help within another year.

Mrs. Hoch reported City Manager Tholen was holding interviews in reference to library roof repairs as requested by this board.

Mrs. Gatesman asked we keep in mind promoting the Francis Line travel lecture February 21 with proceeds to benefit the library.

Mr. Krieger said the matter of the library budget should be an order of business for the next board meeting tentatively set for January 9. The meeting was adjourned. Leslie B. Merritt, secretary.
