Meeting Minutes: The regular meeting of the Library Commission was held on Thursday evening, June 19th, 1942, at 7:30
. Those present were Mr. Woodhams, Pres., Mrs. Francis Smith, Treasurer, and Homer Noble, Secretary
. Mr. Fred Cottrell, City Clerk, met with the Commission to explain the amounts allotted to the Commission from city taxes over a period of three years
.
A letter was read from Mrs. Lodisca Alway, Director of State Aid to Libraries, stating that this library is qualified for a state-aid grant from the General Library Fund this year
. The secretary was instructed to write the State Board for Libraries asking them to determine specifically the qualifications for state aid to which the library must attain
. The secretary was also instructed to create a budget for the coming year so as to give the purchase of more books a more adequate place this budget is to be submitted at the next meeting
.
The Commission voted the purchase of coal for next winter, with the orders to be distributed as equally as possible among the four local coal companies
. As the heating plant was under suspicion, it was agreed to have a representative of the American Radiator Company come to inspect it
. Vacation was authorized for two weeks for Mrs. Van Slyke and one week for Mrs. Bennett
. It was voted that during the summer months the library be closed on Wednesday and Friday evenings
. The minutes of the May meeting were approved at the beginning of this meeting

Inasmuch as the City Charter specifically states that the Library Commission shall be responsible not only for the building and grounds and their use but for all funds allotted to the Commission, it was agreed that henceforth the bills approved by the Commission be submitted not to the City Council for approval, but directly to the City Clerk
.
