Description

Harriet Grieve (1845-1933) married Sylvester Topping (1848-1931). He ran a general store and sawmill in Plainfield. The sawmill went up in flames one day, which was the first fire the town's new fire engine was put to use on. They owned a large house in Plainfield. Sylvester tragically committed suicide, hanging himself in the barn in February 1932. For many years he was the local postmaster. Also organist for the church choir.
