situation, cutting of working hours, etc., in order to meet the new budget. It was finally recommended by the board, that Mrs. Hight write to the city council, explaining the grave disadvantages brought about by this $350.00 cut and that they reconsider this.

It was moved by Mrs. Hock and seconded by Mrs. Gatesman that the pages now receiving $.40 an hour be raised to $.45 and after a certain period of time to $.50 This is to be the maximum. There was a unanimous vote.

It was moved by Mr. Lyons and seconded by Mrs. Gatesman, that fines now $.02 per day be raised to $.04 to be effective September 1, It now costs the library $5.00 per week to notify patrons of overdue books.

Because Mr. Filkins from whom Mrs. Hight orders the magazines cannot complete with the (?) prices of a Jackson firm, Mrs. Hight feels it necessary to order from Jackson in the future. She also announced the resignation of Jerri Fisher, her assistant on September 1.

The meeting, adjourned, the (next) next meeting to be August 11 at 7:30 in the library. Respectfully submitted, Lillie Gatesman, Record secty.

The Howell Library Board met Tuesday August 11, at 7:30 in the library. Present were: Mr. Lyons, Mrs. Hock, Mrs. Hight, and Mrs. Gatesman. Mrs. Hock was appointed temporary chairman.

It was reported that the city council had reconsidered and would return $350.00 of the $600.00 cut announced earlier, or that $250 for maintenance would be taken over by the city said Mayor Heller.

A schedule of help and their hours was presented for our records by Mrs. Hight. Mary Jan O'Lone is assistant librarian for the present, though this has not actually been announced.

Mr. Shindorf will be on vacation in October and it will be necessary to replace him during that time and to assist Mr. Daniels, for three days a week. At some future date it may become necessary because of their age to replace both Mr. Shindorf and Mr. Daniels.

To make it easier for Mrs. Hight, the various duties of the employees will be posted.

Vacation pay due Mrs. Fisher will be paid her at the time of her leaving when she discontinues her work at the library. Also discipline is to be strictly enforced at all times.

A note of appreciation was to be written Mrs. Fickies for her fine publicity for the library in the Livingston County Press.

The meeting adjourned the next meeting to be Tuesday, September 15, at 7:30 in the library. Respectfully submitted, Lillie Gatesman Record. Secty.
