Howell, Michigan April 19, 1956
A meeting of the Howell library board was called at 7PM Present were Theodore Krieger, chairman, Leslie Merritt, secretary, Mrs. Karl Hoch, Mrs. Gerald McCloskey and Mrs. Lillie Gatesman, members.
Minutes of the meeting of March 15 were read and approved.
Mrs. Hoch reported the city council had approved a 10% increase in the library janitor's salary.
Mr. Krieger said he was continuing efforts to have the building roof inspected for recommended repairs, then would report to the city authorities who had suggested proper procedure would probably be to advertise for bids for the work required.
Inspection of the building planned at the last board meeting was postponed to a later occasion.
Mr. Krieger read portions of a letter received from the State Library Board with information relative to qualifying for state grants of money.
Ina Hight, librarian reported the 'Michigan Room' ready for use and some books had been placed in it. She told that Mr. Shindorf inspected the furnace and had no repairs to recommend. A summer library workshop would be held at either St. Mary's or Higgins Lake, she reported. The district workshop was to be held May 10 at Adrian and it was expected Howell would be represented by Mrs. Hoh, Mrs. Gatesman, Mrs. Hight and Mrs. Warner. A report was given the board regarding the services of Miss Ruth Bennett, clerk.
The librarian reported Mrs. Lannen still hopeful but as yet unable to resume her duties as assistant librarian. Consequently, she reported Mrs. Warner was working an average of 18 hours a week at present and recomended
