The Howell Library Board met (Tuesday) Wednesday night, October 21, at 7:30 in the library. Present were: Mr. Engelhardt, Mr. Lyons, Mrs. Hock, Mrs. Hight and Mrs. Gatesman. The minutes of the August meeting were read and after a correction, namely, that the city council had reconsidered and would return $350.00 instead of $250.00 to our budget, they were approved.

Mr. Russell Engelhart is the new chairman of our board replacing Mr. Krieger, Mr. Engelhart read a letter which he received asking him to be a member of the legislative committee of the Michigan Library Association. MR. Engelhardt felt it necessary to decline this year.

Mrs. Hight had discussed the matter of electric work needing attention in the library, with Mr. Howard the (election) electrician, who estimated his price at $600.00 or more. He will do all the work and the Detroit Edison

The wiring in the basement and attic needs to be replaced. Mr. Norman suggested that Mr. Engelhardt get the price of another electrician and Mr. Dellmar Richard was suggested.

The City hall now has a new IBM machine and Mrs. Hight has been asked to send all of her invoices to the City Hall. Mrs. Hight will record her checks in the record book, which heretofore has been done by the Library Board Secretary. Mrs. Hight also intends to keep two records of books purchased, one for 'Friends of the Library' and one for the library proper.

Under the new city hall system, salaries will be paid twice a month instead of once as in the past.

The question arose, shall Mrs. Hight purchase books useful to all ages? Mr. Engelhardt proposed that Mrs. Hight, Mrs. Hock and Mrs. Gatesman discuss the purchasing of books and speak of our decision at the November meeting.

Mrs. Hight reported that her reading committee was not functioning at the present. She greatly missed the help this committee give her. Kathie Sherman no longer serves as the Shermans have moved and because of the untimely death of Mr. Guy Jameson, Lee is not active for the present. Shirely Gatesman (Mrs. Charles B) has been suggested to replace Kathy Sherman.

From time to time requests are made for the use of the Women's Club rooms downstairs in the library. Last requests have been the Pallet and Brush Club and the nurse's club.

Mrs. Hight was ask to inquire of Mr. Field if there will be any further cost on the furnace.

Mr. Shindorf's suggestion to keep a light in the library all night was met with disapproval after a short discussion.

Items from the trip Mrs. Hight, Mrs. Hack and Mrs. Gatesman made to Adrian, to talk with the county librarian, Miss Roberts, were spoken of and discussed briefly
