  • Livingston County Jail and Sheriff's Residence, Howell, Michigan

    This image was included on the 1st National Bank Calendar.   It is a photo of the Livingston County Jail and Sheriff's residence that was built around 1888.   In May 1887, the Livingston County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to locate the new jail on the west side of the Court House Square in the village of Howell, Michigan.

    The Jail continued to be used until 1949 when it was condemned due to its age, unsafe and unsanitary conditions.  The new county jail and sheriff residence was built in 1950.

  • Albert Leander Smith, Cashier, First State and Savings Bank, Howell, Livingston, Michigan

    A portrait of Albert Leander Smith, Cashier at First State and Savings Bank from 1903 to 1946. 

    Mr. Smith retained that position until the First State & Savings Bank merged with the First National Bank of Howell on May 15th, 1946.  He retired at that time. 


    Albert L. Smith was born in Howell, Livingston, Michigan 1874, and he died at McPherson Memorial Hospital on October 29, 1954.   He was married to the former Emily Beach; she died in 1943.

    A portrait of Harold Chubb.   He served Assistant Cashier at the First National Bank  in the 1950's. Howell, Livingston, Michigan.

    Harold Chubb worked for the Livingston County Road Commission from 1926 to 1951.  He resigned from the LCRC to join the staff at First National Bank in 1951.

    In 1955, Harold Chubb was elected by the First National Bank's Board of Directors to the Assistant Cashier position.
