    This is a photograph of the reopening ceremony that took place on December 3rd, 1980, following the rebuilding of the Michigan Avenue Bridge, Howell, Michigan.

    The view is looking north on Michigan Avenue.

    This photograph was taken in 1902 and depicts the digging of the footings in preparation for a new bridge to cross the Ann Arbor Railroad Tunnel at East Street (Division Street, Michigan Avenue).

    As noted in the December 17th, 1902 edition of the Livingston Republican, "The abutements for the new steel bridge over the tunnel near the Baptist Church are being placed.  The work grading down the sides of the tunnel continues".  

    The new steel bridge was constructed elsewhere and brought to the site to be completed.

    This photograph shows the school bus accident that occurred on last steel truss bridge on Hamburg Road, Livingston County, Michigan.  This bridge spanned the Huron River and collapsed under the weight of the bus in the fall of 1962.  The school bus was carrying sixty elementary students to the Hamburg School, and fortunately, there were no serious injuries.

    This photograph is of the R/UDAT Walking Tour, shown here on the Michigan  Avenue Bridge, Howell, Michigan, and was taken as part of documentation for the R/UDAT Study, 1984.  The names of the persons in the photo are unknown.

    In 1983, the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce applied for a R/UDAT (Regional/Urban Design Assistance Team) study, an American Institute of Architects program that brought a team of professionals to the city for a four-day period to study Howell's downtown, its ability to compete for regional shopping, and to make recommendations for improvements to re-vitalize the city.  The team, in 1984, during the study took photographs, interviewed people, held forums, and in the end provided an outline of strategies.
