Margaret Devereaux was first named "Miss Howell" and "Miss Livingston County" before going on to win "Miss Michigan" in 1955. Devereaux then went on to compete in the Miss America competition, and while she did not ultimately win that competition, she was still the first (and only) Howell, Michigan. resident to participate in that competition 1.
