  • A photo of soldiers in the Spanish American War walking from Pontiac to Jackson through Livingston County. Photo taken on East Grand River in front of the Howell Courthouse.
  • These photographs are of the First Melon Festival Parade held September 3rd, 1960.  The parade moves west to east on Grand River Avenue, Howell, Michigan.  The photographs, taken from the south side of West Grand River Avenue, show various floats and exhibits including an 1875 circa Antique Fire Engine, a doodlebug car,  Melon Queen Float, Spagnuolo's Float, and Citizens' Mutual Automobile Insurance Float.
  • These photographs are of the tents raised for the Homecoming Street Fair on Grand River Avenue, Howell, Michigan.  Homecoming Street Fairs occurred yearly in the late 1890's and early 1900's, in Howell.  The William McPherson Tent is noted, and Grand River Avenue is unpaved, so the photograph is likely  prior to 1915.  The exact location on Grand River Avenue, the date, and persons in the photographs are unknown.   The Livingston County Press and Argus published advertisements and articles every year about this event.
  • This photograph is labeled "Libery Loan Day, WWI, 1918".  It depicts the intersection of Grand River Avenue and Michigan Avenue, Howell, Michigan.  The view is looking west from the intersection with the First Presbyterian Church in the distance.

    In May 1917, all American citizens were urged to buy Liberty Bonds for the purpose of carrying on the efforts in World War I.  An article in the Livingston Republican, May 30, 1917, asked all citizens to subscribe to the "Liberty Loan", and residents of Livingston County were asked to do all they could by helping.  The Livingston County Liberty Loan Committee was formed with the following members: Hugh A. McPherson, R. B. McPherson, F. J. Shields, W. P. VanWinkle, A. L. Smith, and E.L. Smith.
  • This photograph was noted to be taken on Flag Day, June 14, 1917, and shows a gathering in from of Goodnow & Jubb Dry Goods, 101 East Grand River Avenue, Howell, Michigan.
  • These photographs of the 4th of July Parade, Howell, Michigan, 1970, were taken as the parade marched east on West Grand River Avenue, near the intersection of Byron Road.   Several bands, drill teams, colorguard units, local businessmen, and bystanders were featured.   In the background of the car carrying Congressman Marvin Esch a partial view of the First Church of Christ Scientist building.   The building is no longer there in 2023.
  • This is a photograph of a band member followed by a Baseball Team marching in a parade in Howell, Michigan.  They are traveling west on Grand River Avenue, and in the background are cars, W. D. Adams Department Store, Standard Gasoline Station, and the Howell Theater.

    The name of the parade, names of the persons and date of the photograph are unknown.
  • This is a photograph of the Standard Oil Broadcaster Float, which was advertising Standard Red Crown Gasoline.  This float was a part of a parade in Howell, Michigan, August 2, 1933.

    The parade is traveling west on the bricked Grand River Avenue, and approaches Michigan Avenue.  In the background is Baldwin's Drug Store.

  • This is a photograph of a Homecoming, Howell, Michigan, Pre 1917. The view is from the southside of East Grand River Avenue, looking west towards the intersection of Michigan Avenue (Division, Main) and West Grand River Avenue.  A Banner proclaims, "Welcome Home".

    The exact date of this photograph is unknown.
  • This is a photograph of a Homecoming, Howell, Michigan, taken in the early 1900's.

    The picture was taken looking north at the intersection of Grand River Avenue and North Michigan  Avenue (Division, East).  On the northwest corner of the intersection is Rieckhoff Jeweler and Optician.   The names of the people in the photograph are unknown.  Grand River Avenue is noted to be unpaved; paving of Grand River Avenue occurred ~ 1915.
