    The Livingston Hotel, and the Weimeister Building are visible on the south side of the avenue.  To the left is the Presbyterian Church; its steeple is seen. In the background, Union or Central High School is visible. 

    In the foreground is a brick building store house for county records, and to the left, foreground, a portion of the of Old Wooden Court House is visible.

    This is a photograph of W. D. Adams Department Store, 201-203 East Grand River Avenue, Howell, Michigan.  The store was owned by Maurice and Nancy LaFlamme.

    The store was on the south side of East Grand River Avenue; older cars are parked on the north side of Grand River Avenue, in front of the Livingston County Courthouse.

    Livingston County Court House and County Offices - 1847, Howell, Michigan
    NOTE: This is a photo of an engraving, not from original negative. Date of engraving unknown. Picture depicts horses, carriage, and pedestrians.

    The first courthouse in Livingston County Michigan. The Greek Revival structure was completed in the autumn of 1847 at a cost of $5,928.
    The first floor served as the sheriff's residence and jail, the second floor housed courtrooms, judge's chambers, and jury room.
    The west annex was built in 1849.
    The building was razed in 1889.
