Panoramic View of Howell, Michigan - 1906
This is a postcard with a panoramic view of Howell. The view is to the north and is believed to have been taken from the top of Union/Central High School which was located on South Michigan Avenue, Howell, Michigan.
In view is Michigan Avenue which was previously known as East Street and Division Street. The most predominant building in view looking northwest is the Walnut Street Methodist Church. North of the city blocks on East Grand River, one can see the tower of the Livingston County Courthouse and the belfry of the Baptist Church. To the east, the steeple of the Presbyterian Church is visible.
Postcard message: Howell is a dandy little town. Just wait and you will say so too H.J.B. From Mr. Stephen Dunlap 4443 Berkley Ave Chicago, Illinois. Postmarked October 4, 1907. The date of this photograph is unknown. -

This is an aerial photograph of Howell, Michigan. The view is looking southeast. Running east to west is West Grand River Avenue, the main road. In the foreground, is North Chestnut Street with the Bud Erwin residence, and its familiar barn. Across the street to the east is the Howell Carnegie District Libary. Across Grand River Avenue from the Library is the First Presbyterian Church with the building that later housed the Howell Chamber of Commerce to the east. Also visible are the intersections of West Grand River Avenue with Walnut Street and Michigan Avenue. The Opera House, then Bennett Hardware, is on the southeast corner of Walnut and Grand River Avenue. In the distant, running east to west, is Sibley Street, where one can see the Walnut Street Methodist Church, and in the distance is the new Howell High School building.
Angle parking on Grand River Avenue is noted. Grand River Avenue is paved. -

This is an aerial photograph of Howell, Michigan, taken to the west of Page Field, looking south. In view, is the Ann Arbor Railroad Track, Purdy and Woodruff Lumberyard next to the tracks, a baseball field that was formerly present just north of the railroad tracks, and the streets in view include Barnard, running north/south; East Clinton Street, running east/west, and East Grand River Avenue. The old St. Joseph Catholic Church which stood at the intersection of Grand River Avenue and Fowler Street is gone and is replaced by a grocery store, Wrigley which opened in 1963 or Sefa's which came later. Fowler Street runs north/south is noted. There are people on the baseball field. -

Howell, Michigan, Early Photograph, Aerial
This photograph appeared in the August 28, 1963 issue of the Livingston County Press, and was originally published February 13, 1935. Thomas Cotter found a copy of this photograph in 1935 while going through the effects of his late mother, Mrs. Emma Watkins. Mrs. Watkins died in 1934, and lived for many years on Fowler Street. The photograph was said to have been made by photographer, W. E. Cleave and older persons in the community estimated it was made sometime between 1865 and 1870. The photograph was later taken by Ed Beach and Wilbur Johnson to L. Nelson to be enlarged.
The view is from the top of Union School and is looking north towards the intersection of Grand River Avenue and Michigan Avenue (Division Street). The exact year is unknown.A full description of the buildings in this picture are included in the 1935 Article. The buildings include a hotel, bank, dry goods store, grocery, print shop, Masonic Hall, barber shop, and in the distance three buildings on what was then the Bowers farm.
