    A prohibition gang that hung out in Livingston County. This photo was taken at the time they were arrested.

    This series of photographs including a picture of the headline from the Detroit News December 1933, when Prohibition ended, and labeled photographs of "Rum Runners". 

    The views include Riopelle Street, Police Boats, the Detroit River looking from Windsor towards Detroit, and a woman with whiskey under a dress.

    The exact locations, dates of photographs and names of persons in the photographs are unknown.
  • Hartman Saloon, Brighton, Michigan

    This photograph is also found in the "Old Brighton Village" book, 1974.  In that book, this photograph is captioned, "William Deeter, bartender,and Peter and Bert Hartman pose with three customers in the Hartman Saloon on Main Street, Brighton - about 1850."

    The book continues, "A meat market replaced the saloon just before the turn of the century, and the deerhead, horns, and clock remained.   The market was located where Hayner Real Estate office now stands". (1974).

    Hayner Real Estate was located at 408 W. Main Street, Brighton.

    Unlikely 1850, William Deeter born 1864 is found in Brighton, in the 1900 census, as saloonkeeper.

    This is a picture of the Filkins Family Sandwich Grill, 121 West Grand River Avenue, Brighton, Michigan.  It was located  two blocks from hotel, and was operated by Ralph and Martha Filkins.

    The date of this photograph is unknown.  The restaurant was in operation in the 1940's.

    This photograph is taken in the interior of 117 East Grand River Avenue, Howell, Michigan.  The year and names of the persons in the photograph are unknown.  While the address is not (2022) home to Cleary's Pub, it was formerly Raymond's Tavern,  and then Todaro's Amber Lounge.
  • 4 Mile House, 4 miles West of Howell on Grand River Avenue, Howell, Michigan, 1933

    This is a photograph of the 4 Mile House located on the northwest corner of West Grand River Avenue and Burkhart Road, 1933.  The address was 4020 West Grand River Avenue, Howell, Michigan.  In 1933, the Inn also had a service station which was owned by Charles Vincent; gas and oil were sold on the premises.   A gas pump is visible to the right.  The 4 Mile House was  a restaurant, and at one time, an inn.

    In the Livingston Republican, Charles Vincent announced that on May 7, 1933, the 4 Mile House would have a "Grand Opening", serving beer and lunches.
